The Trust  and Trustees

Shrewsbury Diocese is constituted as a charitable Trust the objective of which is the advancement of the Roman Catholic faith and the support of charitable purposes, whether educational or otherwise, promoted by the Church. All parish property forms part of the Trust's assets and it is the responsibility of the Diocesan Trustees to administer it in accordance with the law relating to charities and with the Church's Canon Law.

The Diocesan Trustees are the Bishop and four senior clergy and five lay people with relevant business expertise who meet regularly to manage the affairs of the Diocese. The Trustees have established committees to deal in more detail with matters of finance for repair and building projects and with the administration of the Diocesan Schools.

Charity legislation requires that Trustees should administer the affairs of the Charity in a prudent businesslike manner and for this reason the Trustees undertook the Pastoral/Property Review. This comprehensive review enabled the establishment of a database of parish property details which formed a factual basis for future planning for the next decade. The review led to the publication in November 1999 of the Green Paper proposals, which were subsequently the subject of consultations with deanery groups and parishes. The White Paper then produced in July 2000 was a response to that process and set out a number of actions that the Trustees agreed to take over a period of time to ensure that the purpose of the Diocesan Trust continues to be properly carried out and to provide for future pastoral care and development. As these actions have been put into place they have been amended to suit changing circumstances that have developed.

The Trustees' Meetings for 2010 are 19th January, 23rd February, 11th May, 6th July, 19th October & 30th November.
