Our 75th Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes is now underway.

Today, pilgrims gathered for the Opening Mass, celebrated by Bishop Mark Davies, marking the beginning of this special week of prayer beneath the loving gaze of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Together, we also came together for the annual pilgrimage photograph, capturing a moment in the history of a pilgrimage that has brought the faithful of Shrewsbury to Lourdes for 75 years.

As evening falls, we joined thousands of pilgrims from across the world in the beautiful Torchlight Procession. With candles in our hands and prayer in our hearts, we walk in the footsteps of St Bernadette, just as generations of pilgrims from the Diocese of Shrewsbury have done before us.

This year’s Lourdes theme, “Hail, full of grace. The Lord is with thee” (Luke 1:28), invites us to place our trust in the Lord through the example of Mary. With our feet on the ground in Lourdes and our hearts lifted in prayer, we begin this pilgrimage asking God’s blessing on the days ahead.
