World Mission Sunday 2026 – One in Christ, united in mission

This year marks the 100th World Mission Day, and in his message for the occasion, Pope Leo XIV has chosen the theme “One in Christ, united in mission.” He reminds us that our unity in Christ is at the heart of the Church’s missionary calling: the more united we are in Christ, the more faithfully we can share in the mission He entrusts to us.

Pope Leo encourages the whole Church to continue its missionary journey with “joy and zeal in the Holy Spirit”, calling us to hearts united in Christ, reconciled communities and a generous willingness to work together.

On World Mission Sunday, let us pray in a special way for missionaries throughout the world – for those proclaiming the Gospel, serving communities in need and bringing Christ’s love to places often marked by poverty, conflict and difficulty. Pope Leo makes a particular appeal for us to join in the mission of evangelisation through the witness of our lives, through prayer and through our contributions to the missions.

Let us remember that we are part of one worldwide Church. Different communities, cultures and gifts, but one Lord, one faith and one mission. Together, may our prayer and generosity help make Christ’s love visible throughout the world.
